TRANSFERS.

The following transfers of licenses were granted : —A. J. Bamford, Empire Hotel, to Caleb Moore; W. Kennedy, London Tavern, to H. H. Moody; W. Clarkson, Captain Cook Hotel, to J. Buck; Robert Ellis, Ellis's Family Hotel, to C. Petersen; Ai. Anderson, Anderson's Bay Hotel, to D\. Hutcheson ; and J. Bathgate, as provisional trustee of J. Crafts, Water of Leith Hotel, and of L. Court, Provincial Hotel, to J. Tuck and J. Sibbald respectively.

Mr Harris asked the Bench whether the proceedings of the last Licensing Bench < were void.

Mr Strode said that he was of opinion that the Bench was wrongly constituted at the last meeting, and that therefore all its proceedings were invalid. TRANSFER OF BOTTLE LICENSE. Mr Weldon objected, on the grounds of tke house not being finished, and that there were sufficient hotels in the neighbourhood already. The applicant said that the inclemency of tile weather was the sole cause of the house Yaot being ready, and asked for a postpone•inent of the application for a fortnight, when r it, would be ready for inspection. The > Bench thought that a licensed house was not needed in that locality, and refused the license, Magrath applied for a license of a house to be called the Harp of Erin Hotel, at the opposite corner of the same streets.: ''■-Mr, Harris appeared for. the applicant, and submitted a memorial in favour of the license being granted, signed by a large number of respectable citizens. The license was refused jtor. the .same reason. Thorn*s A. Jones,- Few Zealand Hotel, corner of Manse and Stafford streets. Refused, the applicant having left the colony. NIGHT LICENSES; T. M'Gavin applied for a night license for ■the White Horse Hotel, George street. 'Granted. Henry Crone applied for a night license for the Maitland Hotel, corner of Maitland and Walker streets. Mr Weldon opposed the application. Mr Howorth supported the application, (pointing out the excellent and respectable manner in which the house was conducted, and the fact that other houses in the neighbourhood enjoyed tbe privilege. Mr Weldon withdrew the opposition. The Bench said that, in consideration of the good character of the applicmt, and the respectable manner in, which he conducted 'Tiis house, they would grant the license. License granted accordingly. They would, ?Jiowever, ask Mr Weldon to lodge objections to any house not respectable, as it was between the hours of 10 and 12 that nearly all the mischief was done in licensed houses. They did not refer to Crone's house, as", if -they might jadge, it was the best conducted 'hotel in the neighbourhood. Francis Krull, Caledonia Hotel. Granted. NEW BOTTLE LICENSE. Alex. Davidaon applied for a bottle license at Roslyn. Refused. PACKET LICENSE. John Densen applied for a packet license for the Peninsula harbour steamer. Granted.
