The new schooner Margate^ which Mr Harrold, an old Otago settler, has had built; nnder his own superintendence on Stewart's Island, is now alongside the Stuart street jetty, having her rigging completed, and other finishing work done. She is a stronglooking roomy crafb; and it is advertised that she will soon, ba despatched to the Fiji Islands. barque Collingwoorl, reported ashore at the Heads; was got off on Thursday ni'jjht, and towed up t6;the Port. The accidenfoc-: -curred as follows :—At 2 p.m. on that day,' .while riding inside the Heads at a single anchor, the vesselhroke her shear, and drove out with the ebb tide. The other anchor was let go, but she drove on to the sandspit before it brought her up. Signals were immediately made for a steamtug. In the meantime, the Pilots with their boats, and crews stationed at the Heads went off to render assistance. A hard gale from N.N.E. was blowing at the time, causing a Jfcu>avy sea to roll in, and the vesssl bumped 'heavily fore and aft. At 4 p.m. the tug " Geelong got hold of her. After sail was set° and the starboard cable shipped, the tug seemed to make no impression on her, and at 5 p.m the barque commenced to heave overboard coal,, to lighten her. The pumps were sounded", and she was^ found to fee making water. A gang of men were •set jto the pumps. About this time the Wallace, returning from Oamaru, -went to assist, but the combined efforts of both steamers were too much for theGeelong's hawser, which parted. At Bp.m. a number .of men from the shore were employed to assist in lightening her—the flood tide by • this time had set in. The steamer's hawser _ was then taken in abaft; in this manner the vessel .was. towed off. At 830 p.m. sail was ; made, steamer's hawser and port cable slipped, and the barque proceeded under ..canvas up the harbor, but shortly afterwards took the ground above the lower red buoy, and remained there for two hours, .When she floated off, and was Wed up by theGeelong, and berthed alongside the hulk .^VjMorma, The ship was pumped out dry, and afterwards found that she was making : four inches of water per hour. A survey was held on the vessel yesterday afternoon.; ; and, ; after examination, the surveyors recommended the discharge of the cargo—tla1:- a. furthei* survey could be made. * She will, probably, have to go into the floating dock'. The accident wiil be a loss to the owners, as it wa? previouafy arranged that she would discharge at Oamaru, where a grain freight Was ready for her. The barque Eleanor was taken into Messrs Murray and Co. 's new floating dock yesterday, for the purpose of an overhaul. Al-

though this is the first vessel that has been taken into the dock, there was no ceremony on the occasion. The barque, on going in, drew 10ft Tin aft, and 9ft 5m forward.

The s.s. Salamander, having discharged the whole of her powder, steamed up to a convenient discharging berth yesterday afternoon.

The p.s. Wallace, although having lost one day on her late coastal trip, sailed true to her time for Oamaru yesterday. The s.s. Gothenburg is due m Port Chalmers early this morning, from Melbourne via Bluff Harbor. .

The ship Helenslee h&s commenced discharging her cargo. The Salamander will probably commence her general cargo on Monday.
