THE THEATRE.
( To the Editor of the Daily Times J Sin—l was somewhat surprised this morning up'Hi reading the criticism on the performance of " Our American Cousin," which took place at the Princess Theatre last night, to observe the wholesale condemnation bestowed by your theatrical reporter upon the local allusions contained in Brother Sim's letter to Lord Dundreary. Your reporter remarks, " Instead of reading the letter from ' Sim' according to the text, in which it is good and characteristic," &c, &c. Now, Sir, in self-defence, I must remark that there h no such thing as a letter at all in the text; it simply grew out of the singular success achieved in the part by Mr" Southern, and is, and always has been, "written up" from day to day upon any papular or social topic that may occur. Apologising for this intrusion on your space.—l am, &c, Henry Richardson. Royal Princess Theatre, Dunedi-i, Bth Aug., 1865.
