The total amount of revenue received at the Customs to day on goods passed for home consumption was L 467 17s Od, the items being:—Brandy, 229 gals, L 137 12s 6d ; whisky, 62 gals, L 37 4s ; wine, 241 gals, L4B 4s ; bottled beer, 914 gals, L6B ; sugar, 37,619 lbs, L 156 14s lid ; boots,L3 17s lid ; drapery, LI6 4s 2d.

The unfavorable state.of the weather has been much against the day' 3 business, which has in consequence been particularly quiet. The flour market remains unaltered. Except a sale of timber, &c, by Messrs M-Lin-dress, Hepburn and Co. at which 9x3 deals were placed for 4J, the auction sales have possessed no interest.

MEETING OF THE OTAGO FIRE AND MARINE INSURANCE COMPANY. An adjourned meeting of the shareholders of the Otago Fire and Marine Insurance Company was held yesterday, at the offices of the Company, at two o'clock in the afternoon, when the Directors submitted the following report:— Dunedin, 21st July, 1865. The Directors have again to report to their shareholders that the business of the past six months exhibitß a considerable increase on the amount of insurance effected, as will be seen from the financial statement, the gross receipts for the six months ending June 30th. being L 8.228 Is 9d, equal to an advance of 30 per cent, on the previous half-year's business, and nearly double that of the first or corresponding half of. last year. The outstanding ri«ks on the Ist July were rpspectively—Fire, L 202.722; Marine, L 34.060; which together would require the sum of L 2.616, 18s Bd, to cover by reinsurance. The disastrous fires which occurred in Dunedin at the commencement of this year, leave a loss of L6Bl 9s 9d over and above the gross receipts on fire account, and have compelled the directors greatly to reduce their risks on this class of insurance within the business parts of Dunedin. On the other hand, the income from Marine risks shows an excess of receipts of L 4,395 2s Id sterling over ascertained expenditure to date on that account.

The newly-discovered gold fields on the West Coast, have caused a largely increasing trade to spring up between Duoedin and Hokitika. The Directors were the first to extend Marine Insurance to that Coast, and whilst largely aiding the mercantile comma nity of Dunedin by affording a limited amount of Insurance on their shipments, it has so far been attended with profit to the Company ; the only serious loss being that of the s.e.
