IHRENDERS are required by the Provincial I Government of Canterbury for the performance of ttie undermentioned eervice :— A Steamer for tho Ilokitika River, to act as a Tug, and for Landing Maiis, Passengers and Cargo, tnd to be subject to the following conditions: Tbe steamer to be of not less than 30-horee power, to be fitted with towiDg hooks, hawsers, and other neccfscry appliances to qualify her for a Bteam-tug. To be duly approved of and pas ed by the Marine Board as a sea-going steamer, allowed to carry pa'oengeni. The Captain and Owners to bind themselveß to maintain at Hokitika a reserve depot of coal of not less than one month's consumption. The Captain and Twners, ou application by the Government authorities, to render such assistance with the Btearo-tug, in case of need, as may be compatible with the tafety of the vessel herself. The Captain and Owners not to engage to tow any veesel up to the Township while others requiring assistance remain out'-Me; but after placing one .vessel in safety inside tho lagoon, immediately to re-cross the bar (tide and weather permitting) for another. The Captain and Owners to land and take over the bar all Government Officers on service, and Her Majesty's Mails, free of charge. The Service to commence not later than tho Ist September next, and to continue for six months, ■with power reserved to the Government to extend the terra to twelve months, on giving two months' notice to that. eilect.
