THE CITY COMMISSIONERS.

The weekly meeting of the City Commissioners took place yesterday morning, in their offices, Princes street. There were present Mr Grey, in the chair, and Mr Chalmer.

The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed.

A letter was read from the Provincial Secretary promising to place the sum of L3O on the Estimates at the next session of Council to reimburse the Commissioners for work done on Jetty street. The letter was received.

Permission was granted to Mr Edward Lambton to lay down a crossing in Hope street, subject to the usual conditions.

A letter was read from Mr E. Smith, factor to the Church Trustees, proposing to expend a sum of money iv removing a biuk of earth at the junction of High and Clark streets, on condition that the same should be repaid within a given time. The letter was ordered to lie ou the table.

A letter from Mr E. Pagan, asking that a footpath should be formed in Regent Road, in accordance with the Commissioners 1 promise to a deputation of ratepayers made several weeks ago, was referred to the City Engineer to be attended to.

The Town Clerk read the following report from the City Engineer:— •
