Exhibition of Wools INTERCOLONIAL EXHIBITION OP MERINO WOOLS. UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE VICI'OKIAN P/YBTORL AND AGKICULTUE iL SOCIETIES. AN EXHIBITION of MERINO WOOL, open to all the Colonies, will take place at Messrs OUNINGHAM and MaCRKDIEV W'OL ST RKS, MELBOOKNE, On THURSDAY, the 12th JANUARY, 1865, Prizes will be awarded as follows:— Ciass 1. For the most valuable sixty ewes' fleeces of washed wool, £ Per second best. £ Honora~y certificate for third best. Class 2. For the most valuable sixty ewes' fleeces in grease, £ For second best, £ Honorary certificats for third best. Class 3. For washed fleece wool of the his hest value per pound, in bale of not less thau 2001b. weight, £ Honorary certificate for second best. Tbe above will be valued and exhibited in Melbourne. The bale in Classes 1 and 2, which is of the greatest money value, computing weight and price, to win the prizes. Such bales will ba returned to the own*r or sold by auction, and the net, proceeds handed to him as he may direct at the time of entry. Class 4. For washed fleece wool of the liishest value per Jb , in a bale of not less than 200 lbs. weight, £ Honorary certificate fnr second best. The bales in Classes 4 and 5 which are of the greatest money value, computing weight and price, will win the prizes. Bales sent for exhibition in these last mentioned three classes will be forwarded unopened to London, and valued there by judges appoint, d by at lfast three well-known London woolbrokers, and according to their report tho*e prizes wilt be awarded. The bales will afterwards be fold by public auction, and net proceeds handed to owner CONDITIONS, For the first, second, fourth, and fifth classes the fleeces mu3t be entire, including locks and pieces. For the third and sixth c'aases, the wool can be taken from as mai.y sheep as the exhibitor chooses, but to state the number so taken. Exhibitors can compete in any or all of the first, second, and third classes; nut in whichever of these classes they do exhibit, they must send in two bales. If in classes first and second, sixty fleeces each bale; and in class three, bales of not less tbnn 200 lbs. One bale to compete in Mlebourne as above, the other bale will be forwarded to • ondon for competition in classes four, five, and six. Which bale will be opened in Melbourne and which sent to London, to be at opiion of Managers of the exhibilion. Compititors can enter as many lots as they choose, but only to take oneprizs in each class. The wool is to be judged as it free from grassseed.- or burrs. Competitors will have to state the time of shearing in 1863 aud 1864, and to state how the wool was bred, whether from Australian-bred or from the produce of rec ntly imported sheep. It is desired that all fleeces be of twelve months' growth. Proportionate deductions will be made from the value of all flcieces above that growth, and fleeces of thirteen montl>s and above will not be allowed to compete. The ju^g»H will be requested to place by value every lot exhibited, i-nd furnish a report with their remarks on each lot. The bales are to be marked with a distinguishing brand in ink, which is not to be the usual brand of the exhibitor, such mark to be enc'osed in sealed envelope with entry. Tbe original brand of those bales that will be forwarded to London will be obliterated, and tie privately remarked by William Macredie, Esq., such mark being unknown to exhibitors. The value of the pr:zes will be made when the entries have been received. The money will be distributed thus:—One third for the Melbourne and two-thirds for the London awards. Entrance fees for each lot, i.c , two bales of sixty fleeces each, for Classes 1 and 2, L 5. For Class L 3, LI Is. Subscribers of not less than LlO will be allowed to exhibit one lot in each class free. All entries must be sent to Wm. Macredie, Esq. (Cuninghnm and Macredie,) Melbourne, on or before the 31st December, 1864 The wool must be delivered at the stores of Messrs Ouningham and Macredie, on or before the 9th January, 1865.
