THE WATER COMPANY. (To the Editor of the DAILY TIMES.)

Sir—l, among many of my friend.*,, took shares in the Danedin Water Works Company (Limited), iuducei not so much by prospect of remunerative investment as the anxious hope to promote the speedy establishment, of a supply'of wat*r,-so necessary for sanitary and fire preventive purposes. To Government is generally attributed procrastination, but, the interim directors of this C impanv are certainly nofc free from blame, no sign of life having lately been manifested. The powers promised »by the Government-, and the increased interest proposed to be guaranteed, ought to afford ample inducements for private enterprise, and if a public meeting were called, and vigorous measures adopted, I believe work could bo safely commenced at once, and that the shares would be sought for as representing a safe and lucrative investment.

I have so cfceu, and unsuccessfully, suggested to the Honorary Secretary to call a public meeting, that! venture through you to urge the body of "shareholders to "agitate the question."

I am, &c. Edward Casper.
