It is proposed to'establish a fund under the charge of the Kuial Deanery Board of Otago and SoufhlaitJ, for the purpose of supporting Missionary Clergymen and, where necessary, paid Lay Readers in the several gold fields, and of assisting in the erection of places of worship, schools, and residences for those employed in the mission. The Fund to be called " The Mission Fund " for the, gold fields of Oiago and Southland. Contributions are earnestly solicited in aid of the Fund, to be applied to any of the above-mentioned purposes and in any particular district as the subBcriber may think fit. If the district speciSed cease to be a gold field, the contribution will be applied to eimilar purposes in some other gold field, at the discretion of the Rural Deanery Board.; All contributions made to the general Fund will be applied, at the discretion of the Rural Deanery Board, to any gold field, or purpose connected with the objects oi the mission. The Bishop, in 1862, received from the Society for propagating the gospel in foreign parts, the promise of a grant of L2OO per aanum, for one year and a half, towards the maintenance of a Mifsionary Clergyman, but he ha 3 hithtrfco been unable to meet •with a clergyman willing to undertake the duty for a •stipend, limited to so short a period, and altogether inadequate to the necessary expenses of the mission. All claim upon the grant will expire on the 31st of December, 1863. . 'i'he Bishop, however, is prepared to make an application to the same society for' the renewal of the grant, and, if through the "contributions received by the Mission Fund, he can guarantee for the servicesatthe gold field a more adequate and permanent stipend, he will again make the necessary inquiries for a c!e: gyman, and in all probibility with better prospects of success.
