Public Companies. T> S, v a r E C T U S ■ PENINSULA STEAM BOAT COMPANY. (limited). Capital - - - - £1,500, In 300 shares of £5 each. Provisional Committee : James Maoandbkw, Chairman Cai-t. Hbnry Ridley, Portoi.ello 'James S baton, „ CHARLIES I'DWARPS, „ Wii.i.iAii Bacon, ~ J him Christie. Airlie Bank James Lewis, Upper Harbor • Uenky Mosson, Gould's Bank F kan cis Henderson, „ Bankers : Bank op New Zealand. Solicitor: William Johnston, Esq..Princes street, Dunedin The object of tin* Company is to establish regular daily Steam Communication between the feast Harbor Peninsula, Dunedin, and Port Chalmr-rs, with which view it. is proposed to start from Portobello every morning, crossing over to Port Chalmers, recrossing to Portobello, and thence proceeding to Dunedin, calling at such pom s along the Peninsula as may be arranged ; to return from liunedin to Port Chalmers every afieinoon by the samp route. Should the traffic require it, the forego ug trp will be made twice a day. To those residing on the Peninsula, it is unnecessary to say a sinule word as to the desirability of such communication, affording them, as it will do, a daily market for dairy and horticultural produce, while to the inhabitants of Dunedin and Port Chalmers it will secure a daily supply of milk, vegetables, and poultry, such as can be produced from no other district with equal facility. One certain result of such an enterprise as that now proposed, will be to increase the value of property throughout the Peninsula, to an extent of which few have any conception. It is no mere figure of speech to say that even in this Province of beautiful and picturesque localities, there is none—taking it all in all—possessed of such a combination of nature's attractions as the North East Harbor Peninsula. From its thoroughly insulated position, the district has hitherto been, even to most of the old residents in Oia^o, aterraincognita. Sosoonhoweverasitisopened up "6y roads and regular steam there can be little doubt but it will become the favorite locality for residences of the Merchant Princes of Dunedin, as well as of many families possessing independent means, whom the healthiness of the climate is inducing to settle in this Province. For Marine Villa?, and sylvan retreats, the Peninsula, (wooded from the water's edge to the summit, studded with numerous bays, completely shelteied. from the prevailing winds, surrounded moreover by a panorama unsurpassed by anything in New Zealand) may safely be looked forward to as by far the most important and_ extensive Buburb of New Zealand's commercial capital. It is proposed either to build in the Province, or 1o procure from Britain a suitable paddle boat of sufficient power to make the passage with certainty and speed in all weathers, and ofsUch light draught as to go alongside Dunedin Jetty at low tide; furnace to be constructed so as to burn wood. It being desirable that as many as possible of the settlers in the Peninsula shall have an interest in the steamer, the shares have been fixed at a low figure with this view. , It is of course impossible to form an accurate estimate of the value of the proposed undertaking as a pecuniary investment, inasmuch as the traffic is one which must in a great measure be created. The vessel can be worked at not exceeding £100 a month. By burning wood a considerable saving will be effected as compared with coal, while the settlers will have the advantage of supplying tbe fuel. It is believed that the existing traffic will amply suffice to cover the working expenses,, and it may be fairly anticipated that, if properly conducted, the undertaking cannot fail to create a traffic which will yield a handsome return on the outlay, irrespective; of the incidental advantages which will accrue from it.; - r - It is proposed that the affairs of the Company shall be conducted by a Chairman and Committee of seven,to be elected annually by the Shareholders,; all; of whom shall be eligible'for re-Hection.- <:■■'.; ,:'■■.- The Company to be registered in terms, of the Joint Stock Companies Act of the General Assembly, whicn provides for the limited liability.'of shareholders. ■~'.
