FREQUENT instances having occurred of De sertion from Her Majesty's Sea and Lan Forces in this Colony. _ « . Notice is herebj' given, that the most rigorous proceedings will he uken against any person enticing away, harboring, concealing, or employing Deserters." The enactments relating to the above oflence are subjoined for information. FRANCIS D. FENTON, Assistant Law Officer. CLAUSES OF IMPERIAL ACTS RELATING TO DESERTERS. Naval Desertion. 10 and 11 Vict., chap. 62, sec. 11. Ancl be it enacted, That every person who, words or any other means whatsoever, shall persuade any person in Her Majesty's Navy to desert, or improperly absent himself from his duly, shall forfeit and pay the sum of twenty pounds for every such act; and every person who shall assist or pro;ure an person in Her Majesty's Navy to desert, or impro perly absent himself from liis duty ; or shall conceal employ, or continue to employ any person belonging to Ker Majesty's Navy, who shall be a deserter, or improperly absent from bis duty, knowing him to be uch a desertov, or so improperly absent, shall forfeit and pay the sum of thirty pounds for every such assistance, procurement, concealment, employment, or ontinuing of employment, as aforesaid.'' Marine Desertion. 21 Viet.,, cap. 7, sec. 54. " Any persos who shall, in any part of Her Majes y's dominions, by words or any other means whatsoever, directly or indirectly, procure any Marine to desert; or shall by words or by any other means whatsoever, attempt to procure or persuade any Marine to desert; and any person who, knowing that Marine is about to desert, shall aid or assist him deserting; cr, knowing any Marine to be a deserter "hall conceal such deserter, or aid or assist such 'eserter in concealing himself, or aid or assist in hs rescue, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and shall, on convictioß thereof, be liablo to punished by fine or imprisonment, or both, as Court be which such conviction shall take place may adjudge. Miiitart Desertion. 21 Vict., cap. 9, Sec. 88. " Any person who shall, in any part of Her Ma iesty's dominions, or by any means whatsoever directly or indirectly, procure any Soldier to desert, or attempt to procure or persuade any Soldier to desert, and any person who, knowing that any soldier is about to desert, shall aid or assist him in deserting, or, tuowing any Soldier to be a deserte, shall conceal uch deserter, or aid or assist such deserter in coneaiin himself, or aid or assist in his rescue, shall be deemed f .ilty of a misdemeanor, and shall, on conviction thereof, be liable to be punished by fine or i nprisoiiment, or both, as the Court before whicl* SBch convjotion shall take place may »ii&<2m
