THE PORT CHALMERS ROAD.
(To the Editor of the Dah/v Times.)
Sir,— Being informed yesterday that the ro.yl to Port Chalmers was inspected by tlie Provincial Engineer and opened for public traffic, I took a pleasure drive (as I thought it woul.l.be) to the Port, bur. whn within a quarttr of a iui|e ot it, I was stopped by Mr M'K«nzie"s overseer, who would not allow me to proceed any further on account of the road not being passed or opened for traffic. After I explained to him in a ci.il manner ray reason for coming he allowed me to pass. lam an old contractor myself, and for* the benefit of the public and contractor, I consider that I am only justified iv stating that the road is in a fit and proper state to bo opened for the public. On my return I examined it minutely, anrt found the whole ot it to be formed, pitched and metalled, and in my opinion Mr M'Kenzie deserves great credit for the manner in which he has finished it. In fact I have not seen another piece of road to equal it in the Province. Trusting that you will find a space for this letter in the columns of your valuable paper,
I am, kc,
PtIBUCO,
