He snys: -'' The enemy were estimated ut. from 5,000 to 7,000 strong. The engagement .lusted about an hour, aud resulted in the total rout of the enemy, with all the loss of his artillery—a battery of 6-pounclers—n larure.immber of hursre,' and a portion of their transportation and garrison equipments. Our onvalry and light howitzers were still in pursuit of their scattered forces when the messenger left. Our loss was small. General Scbofield .pursued Greneial HinJman beyond Huntsville," coming close upon him, when his forces precipitately fisd beyond the Boston Mountain. All the organised'forces of he rebels have thus been driven back to tHe "valley of the Arkansas river, and the army of the frontier has tgallantly aVid successfully accomplished its mission. 1'
