FIRE AT TOKOMAIRIRO.

-DESTRUCTION OF THE BRIDGE END ;- HOTEL. " ' [raoM oob own correspondent.} Tokomairiro, Sept. 24th. A serious fire, resulting in the total destruction of this Bridge End Hotel, occurred in this district last night (Tuesday). The proprietor, Mr. Abrahamson, was absent, and about 4 o'clock in the morning, Mr» Fee,"who was managing during his absence, was awakened by a light streaming into his bedroom. Springing- up he discovered that the house was in a mass of flames, and had' scarcely time to awake the other people, when it became evident that all hopes of saving anything ■ were futile- Several of the lodgers * and Mr; Fee , Wrnself their escape by jumping from the second story, through the window. The police and a number of the neiglibonrs were quickly on the spot and through their exertions the stables were saved. . There were but few lodgers in the house a* the time, and several of those who were, lost clothes "and everything. The house, furnitare, stock, and books, were totally consumed. Fortunately, .no one was injured. The property destroyed is valued at- between L7OO and LBOO. It is "not known whether the property was ib-' : sored. No idea can be formed as to how, the fire originated, or where. Mr. Fee locked the bar a£ ten o'clock, and every one in the house was in bed by half-past eleven, when all appeared safe.
