THE Provincial Government of Canterbury, New Zealand, being about to erect a LUNATIC ASYLUM on Section No. 159, on the Lincoln Road, about 2| mib* from Christchurch, invite Architects to submit designs for such edifice. The building to be capable of accommodating 50 jpatiente—say 33, males.and 17 females, -with all necessary offices: bath-rooms, reception-rooms, and Surgeon-Superintendent's residence; and to be so arranged that a portion could be erected, complete in itself, for the reception of half the above number o atients . The drawings required: will be a black plan, showing sewage and • water drains; a plan of each floor, and a roof plan, at least two elevations and two sections—all drawn to a scale of 8 feet to an inch; also, a perspective view finished in outline—Sepia^ ndian Ink, or Pencil—no view in colours will be admb- ' ' ib'e. Thedrawings to be accompanied by a specification of a general character, nd an approximate estimate of the cost of the whole; and the part proposed to be first built. Cbnstchurch, May. 1862. t NELSON COLLEGE. —The first Election of Scholars will take place on Monday, the 29th September; in the present year. : Three Scholarships will be offered for competition one Foundation Scholarship of the annual value of £30, tenable for two years, to*which all- students at the College, wheresoever born or resident, who shall ; not have attained the age' of eighteen at the above date, are admissible; the Alfred Fell Scholarship, of the annual value of £20. tenable for two years, to which all boys under fifteen at the abovo date are admissible ; and one Foundation Scholarship of £10 for one year, to which students in the junior school only are admissible. - The names of candidates, together with certificates o their age, must be sent in to tbe Principal any time not later than the 22nd of September. Candidates for the second Scholarship will be' examined in Scripture History, Geography, Arithmetic, writing English from Dictation, Latin Grammar, Jacob's Latin Reader, Eutropius, and English HisTtory. Candidates for the third Scholarship will be exmined in Scripture History, Geography, writing English from Dictation, Latin Accidence, English History and Arithmetic. The Scholarships will be awarded to the three boys who do best in the three several examinations. On the Ist of May, 1863, five Scholarships will be offered.for competition, viz., two Foundation Scholarships of £2Q.and. £10 respectively, the Stafford Scholarship of £20, the Richmond Scholarship £30, and the Neweome Scholarship of £30.
