BARQUE " PET," Otago Heads, Feb. 23, 1862. ■< WE, the passengers of tiie " Pet," cannot discm- » bark after our voyage from Hobart Town to *• Dunedin, witbout expressing "our most sincere thanks " to Captain Robert Thompson, for his kind attention to us on our voyage, and will'not fail, now that we . are on the eve of saying " Good bye," duly to appreciate his many flashes of wit aud humour which cast a bright ray of sunshine over our countenances and eemuntctl our feelings iv the bond of friendship. We especially sympathise witli Captain Thompson, and hold him iv higher estimation when we consider the great disparity which exists between the larder ofthe "Pet" and many other vessels in which we have sailed, and do hereby protest against the conduct . of theownerof the " Pet" in not providinga sufficiency T even of the necessary provisions, required by the ! Passengers' Act, not to mention that there was no soft bread (from starting,), live stock of any kind, pre- , served mtats, wine, ale, or porter, cheese, pickle*, : kc, kc, nor even sago or arrowroot for tlie females and children. We, however, entirely exonerate Captain Thompson, as we are satisfied he has repeatedly visited the '■ sick, and contributed to their comfort, so far as lay in his power, and also that he gave Mr. Haling a list of the necessary provisions required but wliich w. re not sent on board. We again with feelings of unfeigned sincerity wish Captain"Thompson '•' God speed," and hope that he, together with Mrs. Thompson and family, may be long spared to enjoy the blessitigs of good health and prosperity, nnd we unhesitatingly say that the next time we embark we will enquire for' Captain Thompson but not the Pet. Your remarks respecting the list of necessaries are correct, and the cause of their not being on board : I cannot explnin'nor yet defend. That ycu have appreciated my endeavours to render the voyage as comfortable as possible is a great satisfaction, but with men determined to render them- ■ ; selves mutually agreeable under any circumstances, this was not a difficult task.
