PURE FOODS. ORIGINAL SPECIFIC REGULATION AS APPLYING TO OATMEAL UNDER THE PURE FOODS ACT, 1908. Oatmeal shall be the meal produced by grinding 1 Oats (Avena Sativa) after the removal of the husk. It shall contain not less than five parts per centum of ethereal extract; and it shall contain not more than two and five-tenths parts per centum of meal derived from other grain than Oats. The New Specific Regulation recommended to the Department of Pubic Health by Fleming and Company, Limited, manufacturers of Pure Oat Foods. We have strongly urged upon the Chief Health Officer the necessity to amend the above regulation relating to Oatmeal as well as Oatfoods of all kinds* as we had ample proof that admixtures of cheaper grains were being used by som3 makers for their own profit.
