REMARKABLE SCENES.
(Sydney Sun Cables.) LONDON, May 18. Wild scenes marked the canonisation ceremonies in Rome. Nuns were lashed to the copingstones of columns by British soldiers, so that they might obtain a view of the proceedings. The French pilgrims arc overcrowded to a remarkable degree. Eighty priests and 30 lavmen occupy one dormitory in the Leomano College, which building also accommodates 350 women. Hundreds of people ascend the Holy Steps daily, kissing the_ Saviour's bloodstains. Among the pilgrims are 140 descendants of the family of Joari of Arc, including one named O'Brien and two d'Arcs, who are direct descendants of thejjiaid's brothers.
