WAR PENSIONS.
(Per Press Association.) DARGAVILLE, June 2. The Hon. G. C'oates (Minister of Public Works) arrived yesterday. During the day several deputations v.'ere received, and in the evening a smoke concert was tendered the Minister by the Mayor and members of various local bodies. There was a large attendance, and the Mayor (Mr R. I. Hornblow) presided. The following interesting figures in regard to the war pen-.. ' sions were given by the Minister to March 31 last:— Permanent pensions to soldiers, 2130. Pensions' annual value, £125,510; average, £59 per annum. Temporary pensions, 23,144; value, £1,223,342; average, £52. Dependents, 1517; value, £58,473; average, £SB. Widows, 2075: value, £238,696. Children's, 1452; average, £lls. Other dependents of deceased, 5705; value, £192,347; children, 2315; average, £34. i- ■ ' Total number. 34,571; valtie, £l,869,265; average per annum, £54. Total payments in respect of war' pensions during the year ended March 31 last, £1,773,642. " . Total amount paid by Department last year : War pensions £1,773.642, old-age £732,966, widows £136,815, ■ Maori war. pensions £45.095, miners' pensions £16,652; total, £2,705,160. The Minister left this morning for Auckland. '
