THE HOME MARKETS. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, May 31. The High Commissioner's cable niessage, dated London, May 29, is as follows Butter—There is no, change in the price for butter under Government control, but a reduction is anticipated owing to the large supply and decreasing j price of Home-produced. The price of English butter is irregular, ranging from 2s 4d to 3s 4d wholesale at 21 markets. The average .price.is 2s 11 d. Moderate supplies of Irish 'butter are coming forward. Factory hullei' is, quoted at £ll 4s.to £l3 Is per «vt; creamery, £l4 to £ls 5s Bd. Cheiese under Government control is quoted at: Wholesale Is 51d, retail Is Sd. The maximum fixed price of retail has been removed in the case of all imported cheese with the exception of Government- supplies. The demand for English cheese is restricted, and prices are lower, with fairly large supplies. Cheddar, Is Td to- Is Sd. Canadian quotations, c.i.f., have further declined to £8 to £S ss. Hemp—The Manila market is steady, and fair business is doing. ".T" grade, 'July-September and August-October shipments, sold at £65. FebruaryApril to May-Jul v shipments are. now quoted at £53. {The New Zealand market continues dull. Sellers quote high point spot at £59; fair, £56; FebruaryApril shipment, £54 to £52 respectively. . Honey—The market is very rnnet, and low grade is selling slowly. There is no demand for better descriptions although the feeling here is favorable. CLEARING SALES. The National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zcraland, Limited, in conjunction with Walter Sumpter,- held a very successful clearing sale on behalf of Messrs H. and W. Campbell, Ngapara., on the 26th inst. The day proved fine, and a very large attendance was the result.. Bidding throughout was very spirited. The catering was in the hands of Mr E. Thorne. and was all that, one could desire.. The following are some of the particulars of the sale: — Sheep—lo6 4-tooth ewes 35s fid, 163 6-tooth ewes 34s 3d, 150 2-tooth ewes 32s 6d, 130 owe lambs '3os 4d, 168 wet-h----,er lambs 30s 3d, 30 cull lambs 17s 9d, 61 fat, ewes 31s, 92 forward ewes 265. 46 cull ewes lis. Pigs —Suckers to 475. Cows, from £8 to £ls. Horses— Geldings, 5 to 7 years, to £3l, mares, 5 to 7 years, £27 to £3O, pony £ls. Implements and sundries were sold at full market value. The National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand, Limited, in conjunction with Messrs Darling and McDowell report having held a., very successful, clearing sale on the 19th May on behalf of Mr F. B. Hanptfleisch. As the latter's stock was in. the pmk of condition and the implements all in frood order a. good sale was the result. The, catering was in the hands of Mr Thorne, and was all that could be desired. T'he following are a few of the prices realised : Sheep. —135 four-tooth eiwes, 32s 9d: 152 four and six-tooth ewes, 31 s ; ; 79 six and eight-tooth ewes, 27s 6d; 95 fat- ewes, 27s 4d; 100 lambs, 225; 29 wethers, 31s 9d; rams, 3gns. > Cows —3 cows cominsf to profit, £2O to £24 10s: 2 cows, spring calvers, £lO to £l4; 1 heifer, £9. Horses.—l 7yr mare, £37 10s: 1 Syr mare;, ; £35 ; 1 svr mare, £45 ; 5 aged horses, £ll to £25. Pigs.—l Berkshire boar, £9 1 Os: 1 do aow, £l4 3s 6d: .1 do sow, £7 12s 6d; 1 do sow, £4 15s; 1 do cow, £4 ss: 7 suckers, £2 ss. Implements.—Oil oligine, £59; Averv scales. £5 2s Cd; woolpress. £2O; grubber, £3O; turnip barrow, £9 10s: 1 set 6-leaf harrows, £8 10s; chain harrows. £l4; d.f. plough, £29 10s: drav, .£2l 10s; and other articles at full market rates.
