A PROFITEERING CHARGE

(Special to the Oamaru Mail.) K WELLINGTON, March 12. The first information under the new Board of Trade and Profiteering Act has been Maid .igainst Bertie Smith, grocer. Courtenav place. Wellington. The information alleges that he sold to Hazel Edith Sarroll, a visitor ironi Auckland, two bottles of Mellm's food at an unreasonably high price. 3s 6cl per bottle. The case was mentioned at the Magistrate's Court, and. to* judge hv the remarks made by counsel, Mr .7. Prendeville, of the Crown Law Officp. for the prosecution, and Mr A. M. Salek, for the defendant, the matter will be keenly contested. Mr Salelc stated that *he had been instructed by the defendant to engage the foremost counsel in Wellington, and applied for a fortnight's adjournment in order that the defence might be prepared. Mr Prendeville opposed So long an adjournment, but. in view of the fad that defendant' is liable to, a. heavy penalty, Mr E. Page. S.M.,,agreed ,to the case being adjourned till Matfch 25th.
