NGAPARA HORTICULTURAL SHOW.

• The second annual slow of the Ng;i- | para, Horticultural Society was held in j the Ngapara Hall on Thursday. Large | entries were received in .*rll classes, par- , ticularly the vegetables and fruit, and the Society will require more space in future -than that provided by the local hall. In the decorative competition Mrs. J. Orr's table -was quite a feature of the show. In cut 'flowers there was keen competition in asters. Mr Y. T. Shand gaining first against strong outside, com- ' petitors. .In collection of cut flowers I then?' were ' large .entries. Miss E. Nnnmo securing first with a very fine collection. "The. entries tor potatoes were the largest yet seen, Mr H. Black's entrv being a particularly fine one. Carrots also were in large numbers, Mr A. Vhnnio winning both sections. In fruit Miss F. Kliiott hud a very fine entry of cookers. Mrs M'Kee's dark plums were too strong for'local growers. Mrs Sla- ' ter's preserves were an especially fine ,

lot- ; The competition for baking was very keen in all sect'nils A feature of, the show wei<> the children's exhibits, being very large in cut flowers, vegetables, and baking. Mr H. (x. Deal, President of the North Ota go Horticultural Society, opened the show and complimented the local Society on its fine show and 'arrangements,' and especially invited local growers to enter in .the Oarnaru show, particularly in'vegetables and fruit. Mr J. Main was judge of the vegetables and fruit, Messrs_J. McLaren and G. S. Jones for cut blooms, Mrs Harvey for baking and preserves, and Miss Brown for pot plants and decorative sections. . - . A great attraction was, provided, by the verv fine exhibitions of-out blooms by Messrs (J. S. Jones.and J.. Main, of Oarnaru. also of fruit by Mr Harris; of Otiake.
