Contracts have been signed for the erection of further workers' dwellings in Christchurch. A start will be made to erect them during the next 'few weeks. The houses will be of t>h.e bungalow type, made of cement, manufactured at Paparua-prison. DUNEDLN, March 9. A meeting of the Executive Committee of the Railway Officers' Institute was held to-night to consider the recommendations of the Chairman of the Railway Wages Enquiry Board oh the claims submitted to the Board.by the Institute at the beginning of last month. A series of resolutions expressing the Institute's disapproval of Mr Justice Stringer's recommendations were passed, and brdered*to be submitted to the Minister of Railways and the General Manager.

WHAKATANE, March 9. . Standing handily near the Whakafcanc police station this morning, the chief constable's motor car attracted the attention of two 'prisoners working in the grounds. While the constaalo was busy inside as clerk of the court, they seated themselves in the car and vanished. When they and the car were missed later, the telephone was sot working, and the runaways were, located speeding to Te Puke. The assistant constable is now in pursuit. TTMARU. March 9.
