To Stand at Mr W. Gardiner's Farm Papakaio, and travel surrounding districts, THE PUREBRED CLYDESDALE STALLION, BLACK DOUGLAS (14599) imported from Scotland. Black Douglas (14599) was bred by David Douglas, Esq., Balcaimey, Ayrshire. His sire, Revelanta (11876), as a three-year-old, won the Glasgow Cawdor Cup, valued at 100 guineas. He is proving himself a valuable stud horse, being one of the five leading horses whose stock have been prize winners at the shows throughout Scotland, as shown iu the Scottish Farmer Album for 1911. Revelanta's sire is the world-renowned Baron's Pride (9122). To write any more about this horse would be a superfluity, other than to say that his work at the stud is unsurpassed at the jjresent day by any other horse. His sire is Sir Everard (5353), also a great breeding horse. Revelanta's dam is the Marchioness* of Girvan (11806). She is by the 3000-guinea horse, Prince of Albion (6178); second dam Bell (1116), by Emperor (277); third dam Loftv.

Black Douglas' dam, Peggy of Balcaimey (17560, Vol. 29) is by the thou-sand-guinea horse Montrave Mac (9958). She is a grand mare, being possessed of good conformation with the b'est of quality. She was a prizetaker and took at Girvan 3rd as a foal, 2nd as a yearling, and Ist and champion as a two-year-old. As a four-year-old she got 3rd at Ayr, being beaten by her own daughter, Lady Douglas. I'eggv "of Balcaimey'e sire .Montrave Mac (9958), won first and champion honors at Glasgow when a three-year-old. and was purchased from his breeder, Sir John Gilmour, Bart., of Montravo for 1000 guineas. Besides having held some of the best district premiums, he has been a consistent breeder of stock, among which might be mentioned the two champions S.vivander and Nancy Young. His sire was the well-known Darnley horse McGregor (1487), while his dam was the famous champion mare Montrave Maud,* by Prince of Wales (673), and his grand darn the invincible Moss Rose, perhaps the best mare that waf ever foaled. Black Douglas' grand datn Penbj (15471, Vol. 26), by Prince of Thornhill (SIGS), is a very big dark brown mare and in her day held her own with the best mares in Ayrshire. G.g-dam Nell of Balcaimey (10550, Vol. 14), by Young Farmer (1380, Vol. 4) : she was a big dark colored mare with good class of bone and a great mover. G.g.g-dam Fancy (711, Vol. 4) by Warrior (902). Lady Douglas, full sister to Black Douglas, has token the following prizes:—As a foal. Ist at Girvan, 2nd at Kilmarnock: as a yearling, 4th at Kilmarnock, 4th at Ayr, 4th at Glasgow Summer Show, and Ist and Champion at Girvan; as a two-year-old 2nd at Kilmarnock, 3rd at Ayr, Ist and the Clydesdale Horse Society's medal at Glasgow. A very big price was offered for her by the Canadian Government, but it was refused. Tier yearling filly, realised 820 guineas at Lanark sales, Oct., 1918, being top price of sale. Black Douglas is a remarkably true type of the Clydesdale horse and has taken the following prizes: As a foal he was Ist and champion at Girvan; as a yearling Ist at the Stallion Show. Ist at Ayr, Ist at Glasgow, 2nd at .Kilmarnock, and 2nd at tile Highland Society's Show; as a two-year-old, 3rd, at Glasgow Stallion Show. 2nd at Kil marnock, 4th at Highland Society's Show Stirling, and Ist and champion at Galston; as a three-year-old, he was 3rd at the Highland Society's Show after doing a heavy season ; as a four-year-old. sth out of a class of nine at the Highland Society's Show. als„ coming oft' a season.
