(From Our Own Correspondent.) On,e of the most successful concerts was given by the Kurow Frolics, ini the 0 Jake Coronation Hall lately; The hall' was well packed, people coming from far and near. The Frolics, under the conductorship of Mr Lindsay, presented a very enjoyable entertainment, and during its course there was loud and continued applause. The Chairman (Mr Harris), on behalf of the Red Cross Society, thanked the audience for their attendance. It was gratifying to state the sum of £2O hadi been raised, which he said was to help our brave and gallant boys defending our freedom He paid a tribute to the ladies of New Zealand for their untiring efforts, who have been the means of supplying the staple comforts to our heroes, andi then proposed a hearty vote of thanks and) appreciation to MiLindsay and his company, which ha thought, couldi compare with plays in the larger towns. After the entertainment the hall was 1 cleared for dancing, music supplied by Miss Hill and Mr J. Richardson, supper being supplied by the ladies. Mr J. Mulvena presided over the floor. A very pleasant evening was brough to a close by the singing of the National Anthem. On Monday when the _ news came through that the Austrian armistice was signed, the Otiake school children, headed iby their teacher, Miss Booth, paraded to the nearest neighbors with nags and tin cans, bells, and anything, that would' make a row and singing and cheering as they went, and yesterday when the news of the German peace came through, the children were even more inspired, than on the previous occasion; but when their enthusiasm was at its height, their joy was marred by ■ the bitter disappointment of the official confirmation that peace had not been declared. A good number of residents also assembled only to return to their homes disappointed. Mrs D. Simpson provided the children with sweets and Mr Oharles Grant, gave them tea and cakes.
