OUR MEN IN FRANCE.
LETTER FROM GENERAL GODLEY. (Special to the Press.) By this week's mail the Defence Minister received a letter from General Godley, dated November Ist. which contains oddments of news about how the New Zealand Division is faring. General Godley writes of a tour of inspection he had just made of all New Zealand hospitals, camps, and depots in England, including the headquarters' office, and his only word of general comment was this:—"l am glad to be a bitto tell you that I am entirely satisfied with the arrangements and conductof these institutions." Referring to the visit of Mr Mi'.siey and Sir Joseph Ward to the front. General Godley writes: —"The PrimeMinister and Sir Joseph Ward went considerably farther forward in the liin» than any other Prime Minister has done and had a good look at the trendies."'
"The division is gradually getting up to strength again, and soon will _be once more compl-ete," he says. "Winter is now upon us, and the trenches are beginning to get rather bad, but they will not be anything like as bad this year as before, as we have made better arrangements for drainage, and also for the issue of trench boots, and a regular daily ration of dry socks, etc.. and we hope very much to be able to avoid trench feet altogether.''
