THE CHRISTCHURCH SHOW.

Pes Press Association

Ckrjstcliurch, November 9. i The Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral* 1 Association's Metropolitan Show was opened to-day in Aery hot iveather. There was a large attendance. The whole of the profits of the jhow are to be devoted to the Belgian Agricultural Restoration Fund. The show is well up to that of pre- J rious years in point of general excellence, * although there is a slight dcthe number of exhibits. Most of ,the judging was finished toa" J - V" (By Our Special Reporter.) This district is very sparsely represented, at the Christchurch. Show this > week and there is a striking contrast- to tiis shows of- a few years ago,. when North Otago and South Canterbury furnished an important quota. No horses were taken up from here, and Air A. Gillies, of Hampden, was the only entrant in cattle, 'showing in one or two classes of Avi shires. Mr T. Little was a notable absentee in Borders, but Messrs. J- Ross (Palmerston), Vo«s. Dowthwoite, D. M. Sutherland, Mid. Douglas'. Trustees kept up the district's reputation for breeding the finest Bor- ■ ders in the Dominion. The Land Company won both the championships and almost all the first awards in Lincqjns against Messrs Mitchell and Dowlmg, and showed Corriedales with great sucC6 The Draughts were not so numerous . as usual, and the aged-stallion class was robbed of its interest by the absence of Barori Bold, who has taken the championship for the past five years, and who -was only once beaten in his career. Mr Patrick has decided to retire him, and he is not likely to be ; again seen in the .show Tiiig. After a keen tussle, Black Douglas, who was reserve champion, last year, was placed, first and succeeded Baron Bold in the championship, Buchlyvie's Favorite (imported), a very, fine animal, took second) place, and Scotland's Stamp the two-year-old stallion class onlv four of the seven entered come forward, and they were anything but a 'good : class. . Brusiloff, by Baron Bold, who was.; placed first at Ranciora, again scored, and he should furnish out into a very useful horse. Three fa'shionably-bred animals were on show in the wet mare class, and were adjudicated Upon by the North Island and one of the southern judges, j Bonnie Jean, bv" Baron Bold, defeated Mr W. Nicliolls' _ imported pair, reversing the placing at the Rangierft S ' V For marc with foal at foot, four out of the sis: entered- paraded, and the judges easily picked out the classy Mona Ronald, : who won tlie-Challenge Cup* last year, and is also reswro champion this year, beating the Taieri mare Nellie, who was second, while the imported Sweet Nell had to be content with a very highly commended.
