WAIMATE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Waimate Borough Council was held last evening. There were present: The Deputy-Mayor -(Councillor Inkstef) in the chair. Councillors Jones, Pollock, Russell, Atwill, Collett, Evans, and Dash.

Before proceeding with the business, the Deputy-Mayor congratulated Councillor Dash upon his election, and welcomed him to the Council tabic. Councillor Dash suitably responded. Councillor Dash then signed tho necessary declaration. The Minister of Internal Affairs forwarded a copy of section 13 of the Cost of Living Act, 1915, dealing with the establishment of municipal bakeries, fish supplies, brickworks, etc., etc.— Received.

The New Zealand Insurance Co., Ltd., applied lor the employers' indemnity insurance tor the year.—The Council decided that ii regretted that il could not see its way clear to accede to the request. St; John Ambulance Association, Waimate, asked for the use of the Council Chambers for the purpose of ambulance" examination.—Granted.

Three applications were received for drainage assis'-ince, which were referred to the Sanitary Committee to

report. The Committee responsible for tho arrangements for Dr Truby King's visit to Waimate requested the patronage of tho member's of/the Council at the lecture to be given in the. Oddfellows' Hall on 27th September.—Agreed to.

The. General Manager New Zealand Railways wrote with reference to extra railage paid under protest, stating that the matter had been referred to the District Traffic Manager, Christchurch, for adjustment.—Received.

A deputation from the Methodist Church Trustees waited on the Council and requested that the Council allow them to make only one drainage connection at their Sunday School premises. The reasons given were that as they were trying to dispose of the property the Council's demand asking them to make two connections would put the Trustees to a big expense.— Referred to the Sanitary Committee for report. Tiio Works Committeo recommended the Council to purchase a 30-gallow tar boiler mounted on wheels from Messrs Briscoe and Co. as quoted by them, at £9 10s, and that the asphalting be carried but by the Council's staff. It also recommended, that tho office doors and) window sashes be painted.—Report adopted. Accounts amounting to £lO2 los lOd were passed for payment. At the conclusion of the meeting Councillors met and decided to tender a public dinner to Dr Hayes on Friday evening next, and a sub-committee was set up to call a public/meeting on Wednesday evening to make proper arrangements for the' function.
