Tlio lDth Regiment Band rendered a selected programme of music in the Public Gardens yesterday. Attractive at all times, the Gardens, with tlio additional attraction of the band, held an unusually large number yesterday and an onjoyabte afternoon was spent by all. The band deserves praise for its generous aid towards adding to the amount of the fund. A most unusual accident occurred to a motor-car driver at- Wellington yesterday. He was coming from Pet-one. and when near Ngahauranga. he leant over from his seat and struck a match on the front portion of the car. The flame from the match somehow ignited <]>•© benzine in the car, which was travelling at about .20 miles an hour, and the machine burst into flames. Frightened by the .flaming vehicle, and acting on the impulse ot the moment apparently, the driver (Wixon) jumped from the car, and fell on the roadway, where lie Jay. It is understood that the car eventually, collided. with au obstacle, and was reduced to cinders. Wixon was conveyed to the hospital, where ho was found to be suffering from a wound on the head.
