AMERICAN TRAINS.
; ' To the Editor. ..Sir, —Ha vine read in - the Oamaru ! Mail of the. 4th instant ah article 're American trains, afro- a. letter on- the same signed Truth in the issue of tho Bth instant, I beg space to say'a. few words on the subject. Mr.Birmingham mentions in his'artide that the American Pullman, car is nothing .about which, to boast, and this has evidently touched "Truth" on a. very sore spot. Eight years' residence in America appeal's to have given "Truth" the one gift peculiar to Americans, that is—brag, and if. the -Americans: will persist in braggin-g about their methods as being so much superior to those of other nations,, surely they can stand a little criticism;: .As for comparing the trains of New Zealand with those of America, if is beside . the question. New Zealand is ,a youiu', country with a comparatively small population, and for the time being the present trains are capable of coping with the traffic, but in years to come New Zealand may have, 'among other things, an up-to-date railway -system' about which to "BRAG." -
