MILLIONS TO IMPROVE LONDON.

A volume of figures issued by the London Couritv Council dates back to 1856, and tells "of the millions that have since then been spent in the making of modern London. Apart from the cash raised for annual revenue the capital expenditure on the town since 1856 has been £96,000.000. Of this sum, £24,000,000 have gone to improve the streets, but many more millions will have to be spent before the thoroughfares are big enough for present refinirements.

As there are 4,500,000 inhabitants, however, the cost of things is after all only about 30s a head.
