Mr Creswell moved the deletion of Lord Gladstone's salary as a protest against the scandalous abuse he made of his position in writing partisan and wholly erroneous despatches to Mr Harcourt, Secretary of State i• r tlie Colonies. , Other members virulently ab.ised both the Governor-general and the Imperial Minister. The Government reply denounced as unmanly and unfair the ungenerous attack, adding that the despatches were endorsed by the opinion of-both Parlia- | ment and the country. ' ' ,
