THE LOCAL MARKETS. ' ■ ' Oamaru Mail Office, Monday Afternoon. The Winter show .is every year responsible for tho disorganisation _to a greater or lesser degree of the local markets, for the reason that buyers and sellers alike in a figurative sense lay down their tools of trade for the purpose of visiting the show and participating generally in the gaieties that Dunedin affords at such a season. For this reason the volume of business was not great. The wheat market remains firm. There is a- good demand, southern millers being out to replenish stocks. Local millers are still holding well, but do not care to see good lines go past them if the price suits. Quotations are: Velvet, 3s ILVd to 4s; red chaff, 3s 9.Vd to 3s lOd; red Tuscan, 3s 9!d to 3s lOd; Marshall's white, 3s B'.d to 3s 9d<; solid straw Tuscan, 3s Sid to'3s 9d; ail quotations- hett at sidings; The oat market is easier, the price for ordinary being back fully one halfpenny. There is a good demand for heavy seed oats, but the commodity is scarce, and farmers fortunate enough, to hold- this quality are not attracted by current values. If there is any glimmer of hope about the oats market it is that 40,000 bags of ordinary quality have been shipped from the Bluff to" the London markets, and' negotiations are proceeding for furtSfer sales. Give a continuance of -shipping and the price for oats must firm. In the meantime quotations are: A grade Gartons, Is Sd to Is BJd nett at siding; ,B grade Id less. Potatoes for the nonce are a drug in tho market. Tiic northern markets are glutted, "and Dunedin, which bought freely prior to the show, has now eased its operations. The nominal value is £3 to £3 10s on trucks, according to value.
