SCHOOL VACATIONS.

ST. PATRICK'S DOMINICAN CONVENT, TESCHEMAKER'S. On Friday afternoon the pupils of the above school assembled to receive their prizes and to enter on their wellearned vacation. A musical programme was gone through, at intervals' of which the prizes were distributed. The programme was brought to a. close by the crowning of the most amiable and popular gir.l in the school. TAPTJI. The annual school picnic took place at Tapui Homestead on December 17th. During the afternoon Mr Smithy chairman of the School Committee, after referring to the progress made by the children during the year, distributed the school prizes. The pupils under Mr Stenbouse and Miss Wilson engaged in a, varied and interesting programme of songs and recitations which was greatly enjoyed, both by the children and grown-Ups. The largest- room in the school was taxed to its utmost to accommodate the ■assemblage, «t the annual distribution, of.prizes at Maheno on Thursday afternoon. The Chairman (Mr Alex. Crow) presided, and in, congratulating the staff and parents on the conclusion of a successful year's ; work commented on the unusually severe handicap under which the school had. suffered" through epidemics.. ST. PAUL'S ENDEAVOUR, At the weekly meeting of this society, which was held on Wednesday niglit last, occasion was taken to say goodbye to Miss. "Dolly Wilson, who, on the (eve of her marriage to Mr Robert Wade, of Balclutha, is severing lier connection with St. Paul's. Rev. Mr Porter presided, ,and, on behalf of St. Paul's teachers and Eendeavourers, presented Miss Wilson with a very handsome silver cako basket, suitably inscribed. In doing so he spoke of tbo many excellent qualities of their departing friend, and expressed his great indebtedness for her faithful service as a Sunday School teacher and Endeavourer- He said he was sorry to loose her from the church, but wished her all joy. «i<nd' happiness in her future home.

Mr Ferens spoke on behalf of the Sunday School ;'Mr Robert Gibson, the Endeavour Societies, and Mr Rodman, kindred associations. Each speaker voiced his appreciation of Miss Wilson's good qualities as a. worker, and expressed thanks for her loyal- and devoted Christian service. Mention was also made of Mr Wade, who was for a time well and favorably known as a teacher in the North School and an office-bearer fn St. Paul's Church. # After Miss Wilson had replied in a. very appropriate speech, a cup of teawas handed round by the ladies, and so an opportunity was given, for a social chat."
