RAILWAY PROMOTIONS.

(Pep. Press Association*.) Wellington, February 26. Mr H. 11. Jackson., locomotive engineer at Addington, will succeed Mr A. L. Beattie in the capacity of chief mechanical engineer at Wellington, Mr Beattie retiring on pension on March 31st after about 315 years' service. Mr Jackson is a native of Auckland, 50 years of age, and joined the railway service iti 187(5, being stationed .variously at Pet-one.
