KINDNESS REWARDED.
(By Telegraph.) (Special to the Oamaru Maiij Wellington. February 27. A Rood deed worthily rewarded was told at yesterday's meeting of the Society for the Prevention of- Cruelty to Animals. The other night a yomi|z aian r while angling for oels near \Vilton's Bush, close to W ell discovered a horse which had slipped' down a bank amongst some rocks, a kind of cave imprisoning the animal and making ii impossible for ir to escape. At- much Personal inconvenience the young man came into town and informed Inspector Seed, who searched all next- morning bat failed to locate the place. The Tor no; man then accompanied him that evening and showed him the horse- To •iid not appear to be seriously hurt, out it was ravenous For food. They noticed that it had} been eating the bark from the trees and also fern, the only food for three weeks- The inspector had the animal fed. and found the owner, who went on Saturday and identified the horse, a valuable one. He presented the animal to the young fellow "~ho found it, providing that he could rescue it without injury. This was successfully done.
