A SUGGESTION.

SATURDAY A SCHOOL DAY. (Per Press Association.) I Auckland, December 13. At the King's College break-up ceremony yesterday, the principal (Mr C. T. Major) suggested .that it might be possible to follow the lead of the Polish public schools in substituting two lialfliolidays in the week instead of one clear Saturday. The desirability of a change, lie said, was evident from many standpoints, more particularly in the case of boarded scholars. Next year there would be in the school about 150 boys and an almost equal number of boarders. Lt was difficult eveti now to provide occupation for oven 100 boys 011 •Saturday in tho .restricted area at- their disposal." Mr Major held-that not only d'o boys work better in the morning, but that the continuity of their work from one week to another would lie improved by substituting Saturday morning for Wednesday .afternoon;-thus scouring i> break of only one day. The school games would , also benefit .to a, great extent, as organised l practices would be held 011 Wednesday afternoon, which are 1 impossible on .Saturday morning. The 1 masters would, hive to make the only sacrifice in liaving tlieir week-ends curtailed, hut> for the .good of the boys they were prepared to agree -to the change., Mr' Major said he had interviewed the. parents, and a. great number were in "favor of the change.
