(Per Press Association.) . : Wellington, December 13. - Mr Justice Chapman to-day delivered judgment in the Star of Canada salvage action. The evidence was heard at Gisborne. The Tyser Line, and' Capt. John Hart, the master of the Star of Canada, were the plantiffs and the Gisborne Sheep Fanners Frozen Meat Company the defendants. The claim was for £5824 and interest, the amount of an alleged overcharge for lighterage in connection with the salraging of the frozen meat from the stranded steamer Star of Canada. The total amount paid for lighterage was .£8363. and plantiffs claimed that the amount, according to Gisborne rates, should have been £2539. HiVHonor decided, that the defendant Company was entitled to £3400 for the work of lightering and generally salvaging the cargo. In assessing damages for this amount his Honor considered tile interest accruing on the larger sum paid. Judgment would be for plantiffs for £4963 19s 6d, with costs.
