DESERTERS.

(Per Piiess Association. ) Auckland 1 , June 12. The Norwegian barque Whirdatter sailed from Ahiparn Bay on Monday for Now Caledonia, and so far as the Customs authorities were able to learn, her r-rew was below the hill complement. The Norwegian Consul at Auckland, offered .to find additional seamen for the vessel, hut the captain, declined' assistance, and as the barque is a foreign vessel the Customs authorities, had 1 no jurisdiction over her, and could not prevent her-fiom sailing short-handed. The six men who deserted have remained in New Zealand. One of them is a Canadian, another a Scotchman, and the. remaining four are Norwegians, all of whom have 1 passed, the immigration test.
