KAPUA NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) On Monday afternoon the Waimafce Hounds met at Kapua at the invitation of Mr E. Richards, Wa'ihao Downs, and there was a large number of followers and onlookers. The hounds threw off in. Mr J. Wall's paddock, after, which several paddocks belongingfjXo Air G. Trott were tried,' but all proved -)blank. A hare was-finally-raised''on Mr M'Kenzie's property, but it made for the hills and the hounds in pursuit were brought right to the topi'of the tussock hills, thus rendering following extremely difficult. Mr Prue's paddock was then tried and. another hare was raised, but after some sport it succeeded in evading its pursuers. The party then gave up the pursuit and retired to Kajma School,' where Mr. Richards had.kindly provided afternoon tea. Mr R. Rattray, actingmaster, heartily thanked Mr and Mrs Richards for their kind reception, and he assured them that they had all'spent a very pleasant afternoon. Inspector Bell, paid his annual surprise visit to the local school about a fortnight ago. There are now 31 children attending the school, and it is the largest number that has attended for many years.
The shooting season has now begun, and large parties have journeyed to tho Waitaki River to indulge in the favorite sport. Ducks seem to be rather plentiful this-.year; and some fair bags have been obtained. .. »
