I Wellington. June 11. A deputation from the Trades and Labor Council waited on the Hon Mr Han-hi to-dav re-sardine the '-norlwoioht of foodstuffs. The deputation represented that net only were people paving more than previously for their food, but they were: in some cases being 1-fi-uc: "had" bv short measure. Counsel had advised that there was very Idtle power under the existing law as far as weights and measures were concerned. The Minister, in reply, said it seemed to him that it would be- better if thewhole question of w<d<ihts i "- ri measures v.ere under the Health Department, because weiahts and measures bad so much to do with the simply of good and commodities of life. He recognised that -New Zealand had not such advanced legislation in regard to branding and labelling goods- as they had in Australia. It seemed to him Idosirable that there should be regulations to on-r-ure proper supervision, and also in reeardto the puritv of good;? offered for r-ale IP would, bring the matter be- j f./re the Cabinet.
