TOWN PLANNING.

BILL TO BE INTRODUCED. (Per Press Association.) Auckland, June 10. From remarks passed by the. Hon. A. M. Myers to a deputation with regard' tjo. town-planning at Mamirewa this morning- it is evident that the- Government proposes to introduce a 1 ownplanning Bill in the coming session. The deputation waited on the. Minister to ask for the assistance of the Government' in getting a town-planning scheme in operation for the Manwrewa district, so that in future it might become a, model suburb of Auckland. Mr Myciis, in replying to the representations, declared that it was the intention of the Government to introduce a Town-planning Bill- and submit it to Parliament in; the coming session. -The provisions in that bill. Ire said, would, be such as would allow for the delegation to local authorities of certain powers in connection with the currying out of town-planning ideals. In a. word.it would be necessary for the Jocnl author Ltv having jurisdiction over a district to "evolve some scheme within the powers that would be obtained under the new bill'. Speaking as one who had taken a good deal of interest in local politics, lie would suggest that the time was ripe for a lead to he given in the question of town-planning by the formation of a Garden and Town-planning Association. "I believe." he said, "that such a movement would 1 achieve a success sun-; ilrar to what has been obtained in the Old CountiT and on the Continent, a-ncl if I were not mvself in the forefront ot public life at the moment nothing would give me greater personal pleasure than to flirow my energies into tins important question. I desire to assure the deputation representing the resicJents of Mamirewa that their efforts are in the -right direction. Although as Minister of Railways I. have endeavoured to provide an accelerated service so that residents of our suburbs can get more speedily from one locality to another, I fulfv realise there is another aspect involved, and that is an. economic issue. I believe that the solution of- some of our industrial problems will be materiallv minimised rf we become alive to the desirableness not only.ol creating in our suburbs centres which would' offer inducements for those who may live in the large cities but also of: providing facilities for the establishment of manufactories alongside the workmen's-honies."
