CHARGES AGAINST A TRAMWAY INSPECTOR.

(Per Press Association.). ■ V Wellington, January 4. ' -The .case of Inspector Fuller, of the "Wellington City .Tramways, was" further considered at a special meeting of the' City Council this afternoon. Last month the Tramways Union wrote to tlie Council demanding Fuller's removal on the grounds of. alleged questionable methods of performing his duties. The. Council decided to remove him from the position of inspector, but action , was ■'deferred pending consideration of notice to rescind the .resolution. Mr Fuller was -then on holiday leave, but returned to duty a-couple of days later.' J His re-appearance in uniform on the cars led to a threat by the Union to strike- on New Year's. Day" unless he; were immediately, removed; As the result of mediation .by the Mayor (Mr Wilford) the threat to strike-was withdrawn on condition -that-the Councilheld a special meeting to consider the whole matter. The meeting was held to-day at' which the Union preferred a list of seventeen, charges against Fuller. The list included several cliarges j of reporting men, allegations of betting, wasting time aiid insulting .passengers. A supplementary list included two charges .of insulting - passengers and seven of annoying employees. The latter was added to the original list. The charge? were characterised as extremely indefinite,. and the Council decided to insist on full particulars. The question of the representation of the parties by counsel was discussed, i Fuller desired counsel, but the Union representative intimated that it had decided to object to counsel appearing for either side. Considerable discussion ended in the adjournment of the inquiry until next Tuesday evening to give the Union an opportunity of re-eonsidering its attitude on the question.
