CHINESE SEAMEN INSUBORDINATE.

(Feb Press Association.) Duedin. October 19. Eight Chinese seamen belonging to the German steamer Walkure were arrested this afternoon on n charge of disobeying lawful commands. They were subsequently charged before Mr Haselden. S.M.. in the Police Court, and pleaded not guilty. Mr Scnrr, who appeared for accused, contended that the Court had no jurisdiction, as section 342 of the Shipping and Seamen Act exempted foreign ships from that portion of the Act dealing with foreign deserters unless an arrangement had been mad." with the Consul of their State and the same gazetted by notice. The case was adjourned till to-morrow. It is stated that accused absolutely refused to work, and complained of ill-treat-ment by the ship's officers.
