PROHIBITION.

To the Editor. Sir, —No-license. like the mumps, "is in the air." and judging from tlie number of peripatetic 110-license lecturers who are now in the Dominion, one is inclined to believe that- either the pastime of lecturing is a lucrative one or that these lecturers are working purelj in the interests of "God and humanity," and I .suppose that even professional no-license advocates will admit that New Zealanders are human, although to judge from the opinions expressed by these advocates, the inhabitants of this Dominion would seem to have been denied that attribute common to all human beings -reason. Be this as it may, I wish to ask some Questions, and I hope that some membei of that intelligent and philanthropic society—the Young Men's Prohibition League —will answer them. (1) Has the number of the police force in Oamaru been decreased since nolicense came into force? (2) How many business places have been opened and how many closed f (Note. —It is alleged that thousands ot pounds are now in the pockets of Oamaru people, which would have been spent m drink under license. Has tins been distributed among Oamaru business people?) . . , .. (3) Has sport m Oamaru improved Under no-license ? (4) Are not the criminal offences committed in Masterton tried in Wellington? At a late sitting of _ the Supreme Court in Hokitika there was no business for the Court—was this, due to the fact that the nuinber of hotels withm the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court district is the greatest, per capita m tue iDominion ? (-5) If clause nifle was opposed by nolicense supporters on the ground that it was an undue interference with personal liberty, why :is "not national prohiWtion in *"»» "'gßSnSjq.""
