' BARNARDO'S HOMES./ To the Editor. Sir, —I see by Saturday's Mail that the Totara people mean to get up a social on behalf of Dr Bnrnardo's Homes in England. We all know what a worthy object that is, and admire their philanthropic spirit. We are also aware that Totara must be a wealthy district in spite of had seasons, judging by the number of presentations we see recorded, but I am. afraid the Totara people are followers of Sir Joseph, Ward, or why send their money out of the countrv? Are there no widows and orphans in New Zealand? Let them keep .in mind that
