CHALENGE TO DUEL BY LADY EDITOR.

MALE FOE PROPOSES HATPINS OR FOUNTAIN PENS AS WEAPONS.

Mile. Arrai Ly is a militant feminist' and editor of a fiery sheet at Toulouse which preaches the social and political emancipation of women. _ Mile. Ly wields a trenchant pen and is a woman of decided opinions. A recent editorial of liers brought her into sharp epistolatory conflict with the local newspaper, whiclT happens to be edited by a mere man. named Louis Cazale. This latter happened in the course of his reply to the strictures of the lady editor to pen something which she deemedi derogatory to her honor. Having relieved' her injured feelings by abusing him by means of editorial ink, she now thirsts for his blood. Mile. Ly has, in fact, sent a cartel to M. Cazale demanding reparation by a recourse to. arms, pistols preferred. The challenge was conveyed by two of the lady editor's assistants, Mile. Anna Lead and Mile. Mari a Pugibes, who invaded M. Cazale's office wearing hobble skirts and picture hats. Their principal had entrusted them with a 'etter for M. Cazale, which reads as follows :

"In principle I am opposed to duelling, but on this occasion I am compelled- to have recourse to- it, .because in these days it is still the only means of satisfactorily settling questions of honor. I have therefore sent ny seconds to demand' reparation by arm*, and I hope that this, the first- shot be exchanged for the cause of outraged feminism, will not be without result." "When the editor had recovered from his astonishment, he pointed out that under that cod'e of honor, he, as ths challenged party, had the right of choice of weapons. He therefore gravely informed the lady's seconds that he was prepared to fight with fountain-pens 111 their respective editorial offices, or, 'f that was not acceptable, with hapins, at a dstance of five paces. Mile; Ly, in whose veins flows the hot blood of the Midi, has become more angry still. She has bought a horsewhip, and vows that she will use it - a her rival if he persists in ridiculing her invitation, to a meeting with pistols.
