PICTURE ENTERTAINMENTS.
"THE CRUSADERS." . The large audience at the Opera House last evening could not. ha-Ve failed' to be interested in the excellent entertainment provided. "The Crusaders," the star picture, has already been minutely described, and it is sufficient to say that it was everything it was said to be. The elaborate setting of the piece, the brilliant acting, the wonderful mechanical effects, the many glorious tableaux eclipsed anything that has yet been presented here. Although this was the principal feature of the .entertainment there were several other subjects of an extremely interesting nature. Amongst these was a lengthy film entitled "The Snail." Another good subject was "Murray and Kindy, comedy acrobats, who kept the audience amused throughout the length of the picture. "The Still Alarm," the greatest fire picture ever shown, was also an excellent subject, and the two Selig productions—"The Way of the Transgressor" (drama) and "His Best Girl's Little Brother" —were interesting and very amusing. The rest of the subjects were comedies of a very amusing nature. The Pathe Orchestra supplied suitable music during the evening.
HAYWARD'S PICTURES
There was a fair audience at the change of programme in the new hall last evening, and many excellent pictures were shown. The colored films were of a very beautiful nature, perhaps the most picturesque being "Shooting Rapids in Japan," giving a good idea of the skill of the Japanese, and the dangers attached to this river sport. "The Flight of the Fairies" was another excellent picture, the tableau of fairies being very beautiful. The series of views of the scenery between Oxford and Richmond were most interesting and instructive, and the Australian Gazette proved to be a good number. "The Faithful Indian" and "The General's Fate" were, excellent dramatics, and the comedies caused hearty laughter. On the whole the new programme provides an excellent evening's amusement, .and is well worth seeing. It will be screened to-night and to-morrow-night, commencing at the usual time.
