FODDER FOR STOCK.

The Hon. G. Jones made further representations to the Minister of Kail-; wavs regarding the carriage of free fodder for those whose feed supply for ttock failed on account of the drought. He asked that stationmasters.m the disr triet should be given authority to deal with cases on their merits, and received the following reply, which, in its unsatisfactoriness, is an extracranial example of Ministerial callousness: In reply to your telegram of todav's date re fodder,, no applications we're received of a character which rould be granted under the conditions named As a case in point, a man wanted 750 bags of chaff brought up; from Invercargill, .whilst at the very time of his order chaff was freely availr ~ble in Oamaru itself. The Department cannot be expected to give free railage to enable a man to save money when he can «et the necessary fodder at ni3 own door.
