MR MASSEY'S MEETING.

To the Editor. Sir. —I was one of those who attended Mr Massey's meeting of Friday evening. I enjoyed myself immensely from start to finish. Mr Massey is a freeholder, and if such a policy was in existence instead of the present policy how manyfamilies would be settled on their homes; not ten out of every hundred now on the land. Ours is a prosperous country, and on the whole it would be hotter tor Mr Massey to wait until a depression overtakes .us; hut that, I hope, will be a long time. Jf we take, the fnture as a criterion of the past I think the Opposition will have to wait a long time before they occupy the Government tenches. But it is not Mr Massey I want to criticise, . but the seconder of the motion hy Mr Sutherland, viz.. Mr Waddell, who told us he was no politician, and that was the. only word I believed to be right. Will he explain then how he knew we wanted a change of members; if he said we wanted a change of Minister or oF Government it would be more like the saving of a politician, but to turn round to Mr Duncan as he did places the .seal on his audacity- His remarks wen- a direct discourtesy to our hon. member and a reflection on his supporters. Another person might say the .-..mie in substance with less'vitriol in it. ("p t» this 1 thought more of Mr Waddell. 1 think less of him now. Mr Duncan has.proved, himself in the past :i trustworthy member, an honorable member, and" a progressive member; .specially in land legislation no better could be found; a member whose policy was part and parcel of. the Hon. John M'Keiizie'.s. Owing to the exertions of these two members families were settled, on the land, and that is one of the most progressive pieces of legislation ever carried out in any country. For anyone to say that the majority wants a change of member .is absurd. Some. I know, want it, but they will not "ct it this time, for the majoritydnn't desire it. Thanking you in. anticipation ,-r-I am etc.. ELECTOR-
